The Gaslight Anthem (29 septembre 2008)

[JULIEN]: First of all, I must start this interview by congratulating you for your latest record The 59 Sound which is acclaimed by almost everyone in the music industry (including us). How do you feel about that?
[GA]: I think the only response would be to feel grateful and say thank you to you and everyone else.
[JULIEN]: Are the crowds getting bigger and bigger at your shows since the release of The 59 Sound?
[GA]: We've definitely seen a lot more kids at our shows, some places are still rough, it's still pretty small as far as people might think from all the press.
[JULIEN]: You’re on one of the biggest tour I’ve ever seen in my own life with
ALKALINE TRIO and
THRICE. How did this all come up?
[GA]: We got a call one day saying
RISE AGAINST was putting together a tour and they'd like us to open, we accepted and then
Thrice were added, it got sweeter as it went along.
[JULIEN]: Is it intimidating for you to play with these bands that have been playing together for a very long time?
[GA]: We're aware of what we're up against, we're gonna try not to get totally overshadowed, but if you have to be overshadowed, really who better to do it than any one of those three bands?
[JULIEN]: On this tour, you’ll be playing in front of huge crowd. Is it something that you have experienced in the past?
[GA]: We've done Reading and Leeds and that was the biggest so far, so I guess it'll be like that. It's easier when you can't see each face and hear each guy yelling something at you like at smaller shows. People yell a lot at shows, especially when I try to talk. Maybe they don't like my stories.
[JULIEN]: Unfortunately, Montreal isn’t on your itinerary for the next months. Are you planning to play in that town in the near future?
[GA]: We're definitely not going to ignore Canada in 2009 at all!
GASLIGHT ANTHEM has always been in love with vinyl. Was it your decision to release vinyl in the first place?
[GA]: Yea we won't do a release if it's not on vinyl.
[JULIEN]: Are you collectors yourself? Who is the vinyl geek in the band? ( Don’t be scared, i’m a vinyl geek myself!)
[GA]: Most all of us collect records.
[JULIEN]: Do you think that the revival of the vinyl can help the music industry in these hard days?
[GA]: I don't think vinyl can combat greed, and that's the real problem coming back to bite the industry.
[JULIEN]: The 59 Sound is your first release with SideOneDummy. What’s the story behind this association?
[GA]: They were the best choice for us.
[JULIEN]: Are you satisfied with the work they have been doing since the record came out?
[GA]: More than satisfied. (But isn't that kind of a strange question, assuming if any said band wasn't satisfied with anything that they would divulge such information here? Seems Baited.)
[JULIEN]: Recently you did a couple of shows with
THE POLAR BEAR CLUB in the US. We just booked them in Montreal and found out that they’re a very good band live. What do you think of these guys?
[GA]: I think they're a great band.
[JULIEN]: Apart from them, do you have a couple of bands on your radar that everyone should know about?
[GA]: I think
GLASS VEGAS and
ATTACK IN BLACK are very good bands.
[JULIEN]: What are your plans for next year? Tour, tour, and tour?
[GA]: We have some shows we're working on.
[JULIEN]: Finally, do you have any last words for your fans here in Montreal who have been waiting for a
GASLIGHT show for a long time?
[GA]: See you soon.
