[DAVE]: You are known to have crazy tour schedules. Do you find being on the road more exciting than being at home?
[FM]: We just try to get the show out to as many of our fans as we can during the year, but most of us have kids which can make home more exciting. Or at least as crazy
[DAVE]: You’ve always had a very strong Montreal fan base. Why do you think that is?
[FM]: I think there is a lot of Celtic culture in the region and a lot of appreciation of music in general.
[DAVE]: Do you think that your popularity here can be explained by the fact that your music sounds a bit like traditionnal Quebec music?
[FM]: Yes, definitely.
[DAVE]: When you think of Montreal, you think of...
[FM]: Poutine, the fans at Metropolis, and Schwartz’s Smoked Meats.
[DAVE]: You’re touring with the legendary band THE AGGROLITES for the 5th annual Green 17 Tour. Why did you choose to tour with a reggae band this time around?
[FM]: Well, we love good reggae and I think like us when you take away all of the classifications, its just great soul music.
[DAVE]: Let’s talk a little bit about your latest album, Float. First of all, I have to say that I love the artwork, it’s fun and simple.Who came up with the idea for it?
[FM]: We thought of it while we were in the pub behind the studio where we recorded the album. We would do a song everyday and listen back to it a go to the room in that picture, and all the dogs (there are actually 3 dogs at the studio, but Rosie was the leader) and the cat and the horses would be hanging around and we thought we should try to capture that feeling. We didn’t plan for it to be the cover, but the shot came out so good we had to use it there.
[DAVE]: How would you describe the sound of Float?
[FM]: Optimistic Realism.
[DAVE]: What is your favorite song off Float to play live? Are you playing a lot of the new songs on this tour?
[FM]: We just started to play Us Of Lesser Gods live and I’m really enjoying brining that song out right now.
[DAVE]: The album has been released on a beautiful picture disc by SideOne Dummy. Was it the band’s idea or was it the record label who decided to do that ?
[FM]: We’ve released all of our records on vinyl, and a few years ago started to do the picture discs for each one. It’s just one of the things we loved as kids, and seemed like our fans would be into.
[DAVE]: What do you think of the vinyls revival? Is there a vinyls collector nerd in the band?
[FM]: Most of us are, I have two turntables at home and a hefty collection of vinyl, so do a lot of us.
[DAVE]: Are you scared of releasing some limited vinyls edition just to see the kids buying a lot of copies, selling them on ebay and then make a few bucks off you?
[FM]: You can’t stop commerce, can you. I think the money made off of us that way is pretty minimal. It’s not like we’re the STONES or anything.
[DAVE]: You just shot a very original video for the song Float.Where did the idea of the video come from?
[FM]: We met some directors/artists in London who pitched the idea and it sounded really cool, and we had never done anything like it before, so we went for it.
[DAVE]: Are you planning to make another video for a song off this album?
[FM]: We have a video for Punch Drunk Grinning Soul that we will probably get out soon.
[DAVE]: What can we expect from FLOGGING MOLLY in 2009?
[FM]: More shows, more music, and hopefully an all Canada tour…
[DAVE]: Any last words for your fans here in Quebec?
[FM]: Thanks for all your support over the years, we truly appreciate it, and look forward to more in the future. Cheers!
